SMBC article

I found this to be an interesting article. It looks at adoption in Great Britain. The author, a single woman in her late 30's, has chosen domestic over international adoption because of the high costs. She also states that she has some concerns about removing a child from his culture and apparently doesn't feel equipped to handle that. Fair enough. It's a difficult point for international adoptive parents and she's certainly entitled to voice her opinion in her article.

Other than that, there were some good parallels I felt with her.

Can money buy you love? One woman's story about the expensive decision to adopt a child from abroad... and make herself a single parent

Excerpt:
By the late 30s to early 40s, there's a resignation that time has, or is about to, run out, unless you want to do all sorts of alarming manoeuvres with IVF and sperm banks.

Fundamentally, I feel much calmer now. I accept the life our mothers told us about is no more. Many women will look after themselves financially for the rest of their lives. Marriages don't always last long. Some of my friends who were married are now single parents by default.

It could be that we need to thank God we did concentrate so hard on work, because, left alone to support ourselves and a child, those careers are going to be essential.
