Happy Mother's Day

President Bush Speaks About The Important Roles Of Mothers This Mother's Day Weekend

Amy Beeman - AHN

Washington, D.C. (AHN) -- In a presidential radio address Saturday morning, President George W. Bush shared his joy for his daughter, Jenna, who will marry Saturday night. Then, he spoke about the importance mothers play in our lives on this Mother's Day weekend.

The president said, "We pause to celebrate the love and compassion of the women who have raised us." He went on to thank mothers everywhere for their "patience" and "selflessness."

Pres. Bush thanked his own mother, Barbara, for her unconditional love.

Next, he paid tribute to new mothers, both natural and adoptive, saying mothers "help make the country a better place."

Finally, he thanked the mother's and children of fallen troops, acknowledging the sacrifices families have made, "in the name of duty." Adding, "nothing we say can ever make up for this loss."

Bush said to mothers of troops still deployed, "Your sons and daughters are defending our freedom with dignity and honor."

He ended his Mother's Day speech by reminding everyone to tell their mothers how much they are loved, "first thing tomorrow morning."

I won't mention the journalist's use of "natural" (vs adoptive) mothers. Bush didn't use that term, bless him. I quite liked his speech, which is why I posted this article. Besides, I'm just thrilled he didn't say anything about women practicing their love for each other.
