Strange title, eh? Stick with me.
After months of wondering and weighing the pros and cons, I have finally confirmed my travel partner for the trip to Ethiopia - my dear friend, Australoknitticus!! (on the internets I call her ALK for short)
I had originally asked my Mom, and she was really thrilled & excited. But she's older and the worry of her coming down with a nasty bug was bothersome for both of us. I need her healthy, rested, and ready to go when I return home with Myfanwy and need her motherly expertise!
So, I then asked my sister, Claire to join me. She was also excited at the idea of going, but after much hemming and hawing, we decided it just wasn't a good idea. There are health issues involved there too, plus the logistics of leaving a husband and 2 kids to fend for themselves for a couple of weeks. So instead, I have asked her to come stay with me for a week or two when I get home. As with Mom, I can call on her motherly expertise and pragmatic nature to get me through those first few days at home with a baby. Plus, it will be a chance to share some great sisterly time together since we live at opposite ends of the province.
Which leads me to the decision to have ALK accompany me. Now, don't get me wrong--ALK is no second banana!! From the get-go, the thought of having my friend join me on this trip was something I always wanted. And ALK is like a sister to me anyway!
ALK has been one of my most staunch adoption supporters since day one. She has followed along every step of the way and shown genuine interest & enthusiasm no matter how many times I have blathered on about the same old topics. We have shared many experiences & a million laughs along the way, and I couldn't be happier that she will be there to share this crucial time with me. I am very thankful she said yes to going, after being my backup for ages.
BTW, ALK is the person who picked my baby's internets name, Myfanwy. So you gotta love her. The fact that she will be able to exert her evil plan to rudely influence my child that much earlier is a small price to pay for the privilege of having her make this journey with M and me.
So, back to the post title. At knitting class last weekend, ALK (who is also my sweater class instructor) confirmed that we can, in fact, knit on the plane (and use a dental floss container instead of scissors)! I am ridiculously thrilled at the thought of all that prime knitting time (I thought we wouldn't be able to take our pins on board). Plus I will have my knitting coach beside me the whole time.
Oh happy days!!
