I received a call from my 'tentative' social worker (SW) at Adoption Options (AO) today!! I really hope she is assigned to me. I was so excited to hear from her because I am already planning to drop by their office this week with the last of my paperwork. I've been itching to get it all done so I can get the homestudy started. But she called me and wanted to schedule an appt to start!! She said she never does that as they have a protocol to follow and all paperwork must be submitted first (minus the Interpol fingerprinting which takes ages & can be submitted later). But she said she really wants to be my SW (there are a couple of others at the office). I think mostly because we hit it off during the International Adoption Seminar in December. It was so great because it ended up as a 1 on 1 seminar so I had her all to myself. I think she is also intrigued because I am a black, single adoptive parent - nothing new to her I'm sure, but I certainly don't fit the average applicant profile in Calgary. AND, she is also British so of course we connected right away :-) Anyway, she wanted to book the first appt at my house for next Wednesday, but I may be in training at work so we've booked for Jan 31rd instead and I'll call back to book for the 24th if I find out my training isn't running all day.
BTW, she said all of my references came back really fast and they are glowing!! THANK YOU to everyone who sent a reference in for me during this first phase of the process. I have the best friends and family. I get so much love & support.
