I really thought I would have my referral by now. I was pretty optimistic.
Obviously that's not going to happen now, but I'm OK with it. Because this year's holiday is all ass-backwards anyway. I feel rather discombobulated about it.
Half of my family is out of town this year--my Mom and Connie have left for sunny, tropical islands. Chuck & Brenda are staying home in BC this year, and Claire and family won't be coming down for the holidays after all. So it's me and David heading over to SIL Dana's for dinner.
On Christmas Eve.
I have NEVER had Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve. EVER in my life. *sigh* But it's OK. We'll all have a great time together with the kids. And on Christmas Day, another holiday first--Dana and I will be going to a movie. That Benjamin Button flick that opens on the 25th. I can't wait. And despite having 10 days off, I'll actually be working a bit too, as I have a deadline early in January.
Such an odd year. I'm really not in with ye olde Christmas spirit. And because I'm painting, I haven't really put up any Christmas decorations. But I did buy a bunch of items for next year and I'm really excited to put them up next year for Myfanwy. And I've made plans to see friends over the holidays so I won't be moping around the house, glass of wine sloshing in my hand, all morose and sh**.
So it's OK. It's just different.
Besides, I still get a Christmas. Not everyone does. I am blessed and I am thankful.
There is at least one song I have to listen to every year. It's not Christmas without this one (or this one). I dedicate it to Myfanwy.
