Please read this article and then 'scuse me while I go b*tchslap Sharon Osbourne.

Celebrity Adoption: Baby Bandwagon?

OK, I'm back. You done? Good.

Now, I don't normally resort to violence, but if I hear one more person dissing ANYONE for adopting, heads are gonna roll!!

I thought I was done ranting about this topic but this article is really well written and fairly written too. And it shows how bloody ignorant & self-centered some people are - thus my anger.

How dare any one presume to understand another person's motivation for adoption?. How dare people criticize celebrities for following 'a trend?' Well, I guess it is a trend if adoption (and international adoption) is becoming more popular - but it's not a bloody fashion statement. This typically comes from people who have not gone through the adoption application process and don't know how much soul searching is involved and how much you have to prove your motivation and intentions are correct - to yourself and to your social worker, etc.

And why shouldn't celebs adopt? They can afford it. And if adoption has always been a consideration for them and the recent increase in publicized adoptions is encouraging them on to realize their dream, then why the heck not? The stigma & mystery of adopting is being removed, and if more celebs are being spurred on to adopt, as are 'regular folk,' then bring it on.

And how dare anyone question my motives and decisions or anyone else's for choosing an international adoption when there are local kids in need of homes. Of course there are. But don't tell me the life of an Ethiopian child (or a Chinese child, or a Guatemalan child, etc etc) is worth less than a Canadian or American child and therefore I should ignore them and adopt a child closer to home. And don't forget that the Ethiopian children are DYING in the mean time.

And just because (miraculously) we don't hear all the details of a star's adoption journey (including how long it took) and just hear about the end result, doesn't mean they are skipping to the head of the line. As long as it's all ethically done I don't care how long it took them.

And you know what? I now know, what? at least 20 families who are adopting or have adopted children from Ethiopia - and that's just in Calgary. That's quite a high number, isn't it? I guess we're all being trendy.

I didn't realize how hip I am.

Thanks to Heather from the CAFAC board for bringing this article to my attention.

I am spent. I now return you to your regular scheduled programming.
